Mission statement
LGBTQmed is the Washington University School of Medicine student-run interest group dedicated to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) identity and health. We work to:
- Provide education to increase our peers’ understanding of the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and promote sensitivity around gender and sexuality
- Advocate for policies that support improvements to the LGBTQ+ healthcare experience
- Promote increased visibility of the LGBTQ+ community within the School of Medicine and broader WashU community
- Foster relationships between LGBTQ+-identifying students, residents, physicians, and their allies and support professional development opportunities
- Serve as a bridge to other LGBTQ+ students in the broader WashU community and community organizations in the St. Louis area
- Encourage a welcoming and supportive LGBTQ+ community within the School of Medicine
Our programming is continually expanding and evolving — if you have ideas and suggestions for our organization, we’d love to hear your feedback at lgbtqmed@wustl.edu.
